Netshema is an
environment and working tool for hearing impaired children most of
which are integrated in regular schools. These children, due to their
impairment lose some of the study materials. They need a supporting
system that encompass learning skills, language as well as emotional
and social areas.
It became clear that there is the need to integrate the
different components of the support system: the special educaton
teacher (in addition to the regular classroom teacher); the parents;
the enlarged hearing team; the clinician; social worker; psychologist;
diagnostician; the Ministry of Health nurses; the physician; the
supervisors and instructors for special education. Netshma provided
Internet access and email accounts to all these components of the
support system .
Some of the results obtained so far can be exemplified by the
decision to change the frontal teaching methods in Grade 6th to a
research oriented approach using the Internet as a basic resource.
Other initiatives include:
1. Forums with the participation of the impaired and
non-impaired children.
2. Forums for visiting teachers
3. Forum of hearing clinicians from the entire country.
4. Establishment of resource centers with theoretical and
applied materials.
5. Special study programs for hearing impaired children.
Many other initiatives are being carried out or planned in the
framework of Shmanet. Following Netshema participation in Netdays
Europe 1999 it was invited to receive the Stockholm Challenge
Award and has reached the final phase of the ICTStories Project in
September 2000. |
