Israel Projects in Netdays Europe

Living History
Ben Gurion Heritage Institute

The program offer to the participants the opportunity to have an original view of the historical period that lead to the establishment of the State of Israel.

Through identification, imagination, activities and personal research the students get to know key leadership personalities who lead the small Jewish community at the time of the establishment of the State. Each participant gets to know one personality and he follows him all the way until at the end he knows him from different aspects. The participant gets to know historical sources and he participates in role playing with controlled imagination so as to be able to complete the historical picture.
The program concludes with a study visit to places where the chosen personality actually worked. In the course of the visit the participants express the knowledge and the impressions they internalized, the stories of the personalities in the sites where they acted. In this way the ties between past and present are strengthened, reality and imagination, while the participants see Eretz-Israel from the beginning of the 20th Century in parallel to the present Israeli reality.
