Teaching History through Active Research in an on-line environment

The Workshop by Dr. Tuvia Friling parallels the various stages of research followed by the professional historian: obsevation, focus on a particular event, colection and classification of source material, reconstruction and analysis of the event, drawing conclusions, evaluation, and writing a scholarly paper.

Among the workshop goals:
Understanding the Deep Structure of History
Recognizing the discipline's potential for cultivating advanced cognitive skills.
Applying the latest research technologies to the study of History.
Presenting research results in a multimedia environment.

For the past four years the workshop has been taught in dozens of Israeli schools from the fourth grad to senior year high school. The program fits a wide range of curricula for enriching the pupils research skills. It has been used effectively in the seventh grade My Family's Roots project; the tenth grade Second Temple curriculum; and the eleventh grade program for research papers in the humanities and social sciences.
